Deatailed uniface medal from the renowned renaissance artist Pisano. Based on the famous Romulus and Remus image of two children suckling on a she griffin, in this case they are braccius and piccinino - the latter of which would have had their portrait on the other side. As this is a uniface it's only one sided - what's puzzling me is it's age which can possibly be determined by identifying the manufacturing method. I'm torn between whether it's an electrotype copy or a hollow cast medal which has been filled and wrapped around (note lip on reverse. I'm thinking late 19th early 20th century - has anyone else seen this kind of manufacture on a medal before?
