These Wedgwood Basalt plaques are overlaid in 24 kt. gold. They are approximately 4.5" square, and were produced in limited editions of 3000 during the year 1978. That was when the Treasures of Tutankhamen toured museums across the world and sparked "Tut-mania". I had occasion to view the exhibition at The New Orleans Museum of Art. Also, I can still remember Steve Martin having a hit record with his boffo King Tut song from Saturday Night Live. These plaques have become quite collectible along with other Wedgwood objects made for that occasion. I am fortunate to have the original boxes, (not pictured). The backs are marked with a description of what the plaques represent along with the usual Wedgwood incised marks.
