Potrero Posted his find of Kellogg Model 925 "ashtray" phones and inspired me to post mine too. I don't know much about it. It is stamped 'Tropicalized AUG, 1945' on the bottom.

I have a question for anyone who may know. What is the best way to clean and polish Bakelite? I have seen how nice old phones can look all cleaned up and this one would be an excellent candidate.

That phone was used by the US Army Signal Corps, and the "Tropicalized" stamp would indicate that the phone was treated for use in tropical areas (fungus-proofed). I would expect that the openings on the bottom would have been covered with some sort of screening to keep out insects, but the picture does not seem to show it.

Thanks for the info Larry, I took a second look but see no screens either.
