They don't get much better than vintage Singer sewing machines. If you intend to use it, find a shop that services Singer machines and have it serviced. They have to be oiled, adjusted, and rubber rings replaced just like a car. The body of your machine reminds me of a portable Singer machine I purchased around 1963. It had been a rental machine and since I liked it so well, they sold it to me. If you take care of it, it will last a long time still. Although I don't use mine much any more, it still sews like a top even though it could use a service job. You might check something like eBay for old operation handbooks and/or parts. Mine only sews forward and backward, but I don't need a machine that will sew 99 different stitches and spit out quarters, if you know what I mean. The only attachment I ever used with it was a buttonhole maker. Good luck!

You can learn much more about your machine by joining a sewing machine group . There is a group called wefixit , shade tree mechanics . And one called Vintage Singer Machines . Both are free to join . I believe there are other groups as well . You may even be able to find the manual for your machine free of charge on the internet . I know you can find help in cleaning and oiling your machine from the groups I mentioned . Around here there are no places to take a machine to be serviced so I learned to do it myself with help from the two groups I mentioned .

EV173211 dates to 1963 - 1957 would be EM. It's in a lovely table. The model looks to be a 317.
