I cannot resist coloured glass. I spotted this on the top shelf in a charity shop, and it looked so dark that I wasn't sure it was glass, until I took it down and saw the light shining through it. At first glance, I thought it was from Australia, as I could clearly see the word on the inside of the vase, but taking it home and giving it a good wash has cleaned it up, and I can see other writing too. What it seemed to say is G. Brit RE 33445 AUSTRALIA then a date, which may be 1929, but really not sure. I have managed to take a picture of the impressed mark, so if anyone can recognise it and what it means I would be very grateful. The vase is 18.5 cms tall and 15 cms across at the top and has a wavy design round it. I think it is moulded glass.
I have tried to take better picture of the base rim, but the light is quite poor here now!

Actually, there is a lot of scratching on the rim, but the rim is very narrow and the picture doesn't show it at all, which is my bad picture taking!

I think it is a Davidson 'Ripple' vase, one of the few of Davidson products to also be registered in Australia on February 14th 1939. Catalogue number 741.

Thank you Deltab, you have given me some info to check out now. That's brilliant.

Well, thanks to Deltab, I have read up about Davidson Ripple Vase, and it seems Davidson didn't start using Ruby coloured glass until the 1050's - 60's, so that is probably when this vase was made.
