I've had this piece around for twenty years or so and have had no idea where to look to assign attribution. I like red-and-black so it stayed around. It stands about 7 1/4" (19 cm) tall and the irregularly octagonal base has a diameter of 2" (4.8 cm). It appears to be blown into a mold and it is twisted as it rises to the freeform top. The black spatter on red ground is clear cased outside and opaque white on the inside. The rim is fire-polished.
Thanks in advance for any help identifying this vase. I'm thinking mid-20th Century at the earliest but after that all I come up with is a series of "probably nots".
No idea as to the maker Artfoot, but I love the color and that fantastic shape!
H Harry. I'm pretty sure this is Japanese and made in Nagoya, maker unknown.
Thank you Karen - I had pretty well decided this was Japanese. I have seen them now in several different colors.
I have 2 like this, and one has a sticker marked "GRIZELLE Japan"
