    typewriter…
    (78 items)

The Ford is a most impressive typewriter with its ornate Japanned grille and gracefully integrated keyboard.

The Ford typewriter broke new ground in being the first typewriter to use the new metal ‘aluminum’ in its construction.

The Ford is a lateral thrust machine, where the type bars are spread out in a fan like configuration, with the typebars moving straight forwards to strike the platen.

You can read more about the Ford and see my antique typewriter collection at antiquetypewritrers.com

Thanks for sharing the typewriters. I have 3. The oldest is from the 1940's. I have the model on which I learned to type in the 1970's and the last one I used in the 80s. Yours is such an impressive and interesting collection.

So which of yours is the Victorian-Edwardian version of a laptop?

That would have to be the Hall typewriter from 1882. Check it out here.

Thank you for appreciating the typewriters in my collection. It has been a labour of love over the past 30 years to create the collection which continues to grow a bit each year.

There are many beautiful typewriters from the 20th century too as you know.

      Happy typing,
      Martin

No, the inventor is Eugene Ford who became a senior research scientist with IBM, there is no association with the Ford Motor Company.
