Georgian era painting with watercolors on a silk ground.
I love the dog standing on his hind legs attempting to get the attention of its owner. Areas of the young girl's dress have been embroidered in several colors of satin stitching. Flowers are hanging from the nearby tree. In the background are mountains.
The frame is also Georgian and gold-leaf daisies adorn the corners of the eglomise glass. This is a wonderful piece of early painting and silk embroidery.
It is hard to believe that this small painting is over two centuries old.
It measures 7-1/2 inches wide and 8-1/2 inches high, including the frame. I was told that this is from an estate near the Cotswolds UK.
Thank you kyra for the information on the eglomise glass.
Just amazing!!! Very beautiful..........
Absolutely beautiful, charming, highly desirable!!!
The black and gold around the embroidery is painted under the glass and called "églomisé":
