This cobalt glass decanter stands about 9" tall, is about 4.5" in diameter, and has three faces. It features a cut and ground glass hexagonal stopper, and is covered with sterling silver overlay. The scene features a beautifully modeled rider on the hunt with his dogs, galloping across hill and dale. The rim is fitted with a silver collar, and the stopper is also decorated with sterling. The sides of the decanter are pinched in a manner to make it easy to grasp, suitable for a gentleman of means to pour himself a nice glass of single malt highlands whiskey after chasing across the moors with the hounds, either in pursuit of the fox, the tax collectors, or the peasants :-) It is marked "STERLING" as one can see in photo four, so I believe the lack of proper UK silver hallmarks eliminates British manufacture. My best guess would be Bohemian. Now here is one horse that can walk, trot, gallop, and de-canter ;-P Hope you enjoy! - Cheers! - Bob

What a fun piece! I love how the pinched sides make it nice to hold - even after a few drinks! ;)
Thanks fleafinder :-)
I would fear drinking from it for fear of lead leeching from the glass into the Scotch ;-P

Hi I am new to this site and found it as I was searching for history on a piece I found that is very similar to this one posted. I am interested in finding out as much as I can about this glass ware such as age, possible country of origin and/or manufacture and approx. value. Mine is 9 7/8" h x 8 3/8" in diameter. The scene is an intricate silver overlay of what looks like southern belles and gentlemen with boats in the background. Your feed back is much appreciated!
