More from the old farm! Any idea what this is? Very solid. Not sure if it means anything, but it was next to an old wooden ammo box and what looks like a very old lathe. ( not sure if it is a lathe , just a guess) I don't collect antiques, so I have no experience. I am just trying to get a historical idea of the farm life here many years ago! Thanks! Amie

If it helps, the previous owner was a shoe cobbler, farm dates to 1793.

To me... resembles tighten screw from Apple press,IMO

If that's an ordinary ball-point pen in the pic the screw appears to be about two feet long. It could be either of the ideas above, or one of a pair used in a large wood-workers parallel-jaw clamp, or from a long wooden "bar" clamp for doors and panels. I think the vise is most probable.

Would concur with UncleRon with "parallel-jaw" clamp

hmm.. we live on Applebutter Hollow and they used to make big pots of Applebutter back in the day.. so maybe the Apple press? Then again, it did come out of the old workshop area...not sure what an a parallel jaw clamp is but I am going to look it up! Thanks so much!

An apple press crushes the apples to squeeze out the juice (cider). Apple-butter is made by cooking down whole apples (sans core) and straining the pulp to eliminate the peels. Then add lots of brown sugar, some cinnamon and a touch of allspice and cook it until it isn't runny. Mmmm..... Great on schmeerkase!
