Found this 12.5" tall decanter at a thrift shop in Colorado. At first glance I thought it was a vintage decanter of a Canadian Mountie by Canadian Club brand whiskey. After further inspection I find on the bottom a stamp in the decanter that reads "Albertas Molds Inc 1973 *660" so it was manufactured by Albertas Molds Inc in 1973. I went to Albertas website trying to find some more info about it. They have a catalog with every mold they've done since 1948 so I get to the decanters section of this catalog and there are a bunch of similar looking decanters but can't find the Mountie anywhere and the *660 is the copyright number and in this catalog they skipped copyright 660. This intrigued me why would they leave one of their own products out of a catalog? Well I kept digging and found through Google that someone had posted pictures of this old books pages and it was just full of copyrights well sure enough out of the thousands of pages their I find "Alberta's Molds #660 Mountie Decanter" so I begin to check eBay and Amazon and still can't find a single one that is identical to this mystery Mountie! Well I was brought to a website called worthpoint and someone was selling the original mold used to make the Mountie but not the Mountie Decanter itself just the mold. They wanted me to pay $39 just to recieve more info on the mold and become a member so I looked for other free answers. I reached out to Canadian Club whiskey and asked if they had ever produced decanters in 1973 their response: "Thanks for your email. Canadian Club® does not produce decanters. If you own a decanter featuring the Canadian Club® logo, we recommend contacting the store where you purchased the piece for further information." Well contacting the store where I got it wouldn't help because they literally have thousands of items that come through their doors everyday that are all donated so they don't keep an inventory or do research on really any items. So after all this digging and winding up at dead end after dead end I'm at the conclusion that this might possibly be the only copyright #660 Mountie decanter left in existence because (This next part is just my theory I could be totally wrong) back in 1973 after Alberta Molds made this decanter and decided to paint Canadian Club on the bottom instead of rum, gin, vodka like that of their other decanters from around this same time Alberta Mold's got hit with a lawsuit for copyright infringement by Canadian Club Whiskey for using their name to try and market a decanter without Canadian Clubs permission. So Alberta Molds to save face had them destroyed and discontinued! What backs up my theory is the fact that the original mold is still around because Canadian club was hand painted on the decanter long after the mold had been set! And I can't find another one like it! But I came to this site to hear others thoughts as well so please if you have any knowledge to bestow upon me and my mystery Mountie who survived the great cover up of '73 then please let me know!

Take some ash and rub it over the bottom mark to SEE if the info we think we are reading is correct.

I will look around. Might try MOUNTIE, OR RCMP, OR ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE decanter for other words.......plus the words "Drunk as skunk" as listed here in this one

Thanks for the info and it looks the same but the painting on the one you sent seems way more vibrant... Bottom on mine reads Alberta's Molds INC 1973 *660

Hi. I know th8s thread/post is 4 yrs old. However, I have the exact same model u describe and I see in your pics. On the bottom of the one I possess it has what appears to be a delegated color paint scheme to follow for the decanter itself. Under the sticker it matches what u have described is on yours. I ended up with this after my mother's godmother passed away a yr ago. I collect decanters so my mother gave it to me. She has no know stories or history of the item. I wish there was an option to include pics in this post so u can view mine for yourself . At least now u know that there is at least 1 other one in existence. U can email me for pics if U desire @Jewlzlbc@gmail.com.
