Hal Fromhold bottle vase

The work of Hal Fromhold is often flamboyant and outrageous. He was not afraid to experiment with his shapes or glazes. Working in Los Angeles in the 1950s and '60s, he made (now instantly recognizable) wacky three-dimensional humanoid figural wall hanging plaques that are both goofy and confrontational at the same time and big Brutalist animalistic stoneware "doorstops" among other things. Often over-looked, he also made some really pretty traditional and utilitarian ware.

This narrow-necked bottle form vase stands just under 9" (22.5 cm). The stoneware body is peppered with "who-knows-what" and given overlapping dips in the cobalt glaze pot.
