This 1/2 gallon jar is marked, THE Ball Mason. with the word "THE" in small letters inside the loop of the M. The embossing isn't very raised and in the case of "THE" and the end of the "Mason" is barely raised at all. It has an F on the bottom of the jar and 2 faint lines or seams running down both sides of the jar. The glass has a wavy appearance. I've spent quite a bit of time and have found one other jar online like it, but the seller didn't give a history. I've checked numerous sources for when Ball used this mark, but haven't found a thing. I wonder if it is an early Ball jar from the time in which manufacturers marked jars as Mason jars as a description of the type of jar, or if it was made after Ball acquired Mason? It is difficult to photograph the lettering so I know the photos aren't great. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks for looking:)
Wish you and your 2017 is fill with, Peace, Love, Prosperity and love.
All the best.

Thank you so much and I hope the same for you. Happy New Year;)
Ball would purchase glass factories, buying the competition. They would recut molds, adding their name. That is the reason for the uneven embossing strength. Company that made THE Mason jar was based in Kansas, right around 1910. Hope this helps.
