Found this spinner in a box lot at a local auction. There are several different good luck signs and one of them is the swastika.

Hi NH,
Asia has used the "swastika" for thousands of years as a sign of good fortune. You see it on their temples etc. The Nazi's stole the symbol and basically ruined it forever.
Could this cool looking spinner be pre-war?
The Swastika was popular pre-WWl &ll it's an either or kinda thing. It was a good luck symbol for both NA and Asian as well as many others. It was a popular symbol used in western culture pre Hitler. I have a carpet lined with them, and several Madame Hendren metals with it on them.
The swastika (Sanskrit: ????????) is an equilateral cross with its arms bent at right angles, in either right-facing (?) form or its mirrored left-facing (?) form. Earliest archaeological evidence of swastika-shaped ornaments dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization of Ancient India as well as Classical Antiquity. It remains widely used in Indian Religions, specifically in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
Following a brief surge of popularity in Western culture, the swastika was adopted as a symbol of the National Socialist German Worker’s Party (the Nazi Party) in 1920.
Sorry I cut and pasted and it wouldn't allow the symbols, that is why there are question marks there
Terrific information! I know I see this symbol a whole lot when traveling Asia, SE Asia, India and especially Nepal. We Westerns tend to shy away from it as it has real prominance as the Nazi symbol. I remember when the Olympics were in Japan people called to complain that there were swastikas all over the place.
Thank you for that added information, nothing better than learning!
The spinner is from 1918.
Sorry, I was confused about the date. I have a deck of good luck cards with the swastika and they are from 1918.
