HippieArch…
(516 items)
When I was a kid, New Years Day meant countdowns - always a countdown I'd listen to on my 6-transistor radio ---the top 100 of the previous year. I decided to the same thing with my collection to amuse the old guy- started with a Top 40 - that escalated to top 50 - then 52, one for each week - but finally came to a halt at 55 because today is NYD and I am sure I have forgotten some but enough! This list is inclusive of items received by Dec 31, 2016. I have acquired some show stoppers that will be here this month and working on a hippie's personal archive as well - these will not count. Some in this top 55 will be items I previously posted but most will not be.
#55 Circa 1960's IMPKO Store Display Peace Symbol Stickers, complete and unused. What I find most curious about this is why would they design the packaging so the Peace Symbol is upside down? IMPKO was located in Hackensack NJ. I have come across different full displays from them, makes me wonder - did any of these sell?
Upside down the semaphore letters become "U" and "D", standing for Unilateral (or Universal, depending on who you talk to) Disarmament.
To respond to your other wondering - I suspect that full display cards are found so commonly because of the once common neighborhood "head shops" were left with a garage full of inventory when the businesses were no longer sustainable.
Happy New Year !!!
Thanks Nicefice and vetreio50 for the New Year greetings, wish you the same and then some. Peace to all!
artfoot, those are very good points. I have a good friend who ran a head shop here in Manchester, I will have to ask him how much inventory he had when it reached the "no longer sustainable" stage. I did not know that about the "U" and the "D" - you taught the "hippie archaeologist" something new - and that is greatly appreciated. Happy new year, appreciate your help.
