I stumbled upon this at a pawn shop while looking for non-rainbow moonstones. It was in a case with the opals, marked and priced as an opal. So, I bought for a bargain price, but now I need help figuring out what it is. I've seen lots of Lindes and I don't think this is one. Star Opal? (doubtful) White star sapphire? Star "some other stone"? Star moonstone would be ideal, but I'll keep dreaming. Oh, and it's 10kt yellow gold. And no markings that I can see. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Very Nice find and ~ Welcome

Just a guess - but could it be " Color-Change Star Sapphire "

See the 10th piece posted here. Does it change slightly in different line ( not the star, the stone color ? )

See what others say as they are more knowledgeable jewelry people than little old me....LOL

P.s. - I have heard lindes have a small * L * on the back, anything on your back? Also the star follows a light source too for you? I have a a blue Star one myself ( posted here ) and love it. Mine was a garage sale find in a bag of jewelry...lol

I guess I didn't think to check it outside in daylight! Great suggestion, antiquerose. I can say in the dark it looks sort of like an opal, so maybe whoever labeled it looked at it in the dark. And when I asked the sales lady about the star, she informed that all cabochon stones (man-made and natural) that have a star are called Linde's. Don't you just love it when people who are supposed to be the expert have no idea what they're talking about? Although, in this instance it worked in my favor, I guess. I'll check it out tomorrow and update you. Thank you!
*there is no L engraved on the rough back of the stone and the star dances around depending on where the light source hits it.

No, not an Opal. You don't want to see an "L" because Linde stars are manufactured. The sales lady is hilarious!!! Geepers.....HAHAHA! A thermal conductivity test is the only foolproof way of identifying genuine from manufactured.

No L unless it's hidden under the setting where I can't see! So, I'm happy about that at least. Thanks for clarifying on the opal mystery! I really appreciate it!

You're very welcome, and that is a beautiful ring no matter what the stone turns out to be.
