1960's play wooden construction sticks

These were mine when growing up in the early 1960's. I do not recall ever having any container for them or any name for them other than building sticks. Anyone else ever have these, and do you have any information about them? They were certainly a lot of fun! I have about 40, so I am guessing that they were sold in packs of maybe 50?
