Gransjewels
(1 item)
These belonged to my grandmother and possible her or my grandfather' s father. There are ties to the Boer War also. The diamond brooch has no markings on it at all and is possibly 1920 s era. I have been told the pin may be a kilt pin but I have had no luck in finding a pin like it. Grandfather was Welsh and Grandma was English, both in vaudeville also. If anyone has any clues to the kilt pin I would love to hear. We noticed how similar the diamond brooch is to the pin too. Quite frustrating not knowing the history. Thank you
Hi - you have to provide much better photos (right side up, posted from a regular pc) if we are to help you. Clear close ups of each piece taken in natural daylight would be very helpful - front and back. You can post four photos here - just use the Edit button on the page to change your information.
Thanks.
Thanks everyone, and I will put up better photos
Ps not sure why the photo is upside down either!
Your diamond brooch may date from around 1910, I'm not sure if it's purely decorative or carries some heraldic meaning; you may want to research that. The other brooch could be heraldic if you manage to find the crest it depicts: The combination of hallebarde /halbert and three castles /towers indicate Spain as a possible direction for your search but don't exclude other countries; it could turn out to be a family crest, a city coat-of-arms, an organization badge, etc. The trombone clasp could also be a sign of European origin. Keep in mind though, that around 1930-40 heraldic jewelry was very much in style and many companies (Coro in the USA, for example) manufactured jewelry bearing decorative shields and fantasy crests with no particular meaning attached. So if you find that there is no genuine historic emblem corresponding to the image on your pin, it would probably mean that it's a piece of heraldic style jewelry made in France or another European country circa 1940. Good luck with your research and let us know what you dig up.
You are taking the pics upside down with your phone.
The thing with cameras - people ALWAYS knew which way was up. Phones make me insane.
I wish I could see these, but I can't look at pics like this anymore. I WISH CW had a simple photo editor so people could flip their photos.
Thank you so much davyd286, lots of info there. I have tried looking up crests but have not come across anything similar. I will search your descriptions.
As for the photos it was with my iPad, hard to tell if that is upside down lol. Will redo them. Thanks again
I am having trouble replacing original photos..I can remove them but I can't find an option to put up replacement ones?
Carcassone ...the name I just spotted on the front of the pin..amazing what you see in better light with glasses on. So French history davyd286?
Here's a catalog page from 1887-1889 (courtesy of Morning Glory Antiques) featuring designs somewhat similar to your diamond brooch: http://www.morninggloryantiques.com/imagesJC/Catalogues/roddin31.jpg
