I purchased a set a little while back. This is a very detailed pewter set that includes a teapot, sugar and creamer. This does have an impressed mark on the bottom. This is a heavy set and there are some dents in the pewter. Can anyone tell me anything about the history of this or what age it has?
I think this would be from around 1900 or just before, when pewter from Swatow (now Shantou) was exported to the West, particularly Britain and her then colonies. Shantou is close to Canton and there were restrictions in that area on types and amounts of export.
There appears to have been many brands of pewter but in my searching I found no others called Nganki Heung, or with that particular spout shape(there are similar).
It seems quite collectible, and it's fantastic you have the three piece set, and in such excellent condition. It's wonderful hand made pewter ware!
Thanks so much for the info, racer4four. I had tried to research a little but did not come across this particular name either. When I got these I was really surprised by the weight and attention to detail that they had.
