I liked this fairy lamp very much at first sight even though I realised it might not be that old. However I did find that Linda McMullen is included on a list of Fenton artists/painters published by a Fenton Club. I assumed that having the artist's name on the dome meant the whole was Fenton!

I bought it but then when I searched some more I could only find the dome on a matching custard glass base. There is no identifying mark on the blue base.

I'd be very pleased if anyone could tell me whether the blue base is Fenton or something else altogether.

The saucer was made in a two part mould. The line which reveals where the two parts joined runs round the scalloped rim. The moulding is high quality and the dome is a snug fit in the base.

I have no view as to whether the base is Fenton or not beyond thinking that if Fenton it would have been marked/stamped.

I think what you purchased is a mismatch. The last pic is probably how this piece was originally sold by Fenton. Also, not all Fenton is marked. Fenton didn't start putting their logo into the glass until the early 70's. Prior to that they just stuck on a paper label.

Thank you, TimeTraveller, for confirming my suspicions. I should have done more searching in advance!

Hi and thanks for your support. I agree with time and have looked about 20 minutes. 1+1 is not equaling 2 if you know what I mean. ;0)
Maybe another pic of the blue base or tallcakes will come to your rescue.
No expert here but from what I see there are some different bases. I'll be interested to see..

Thank you for looking, OGF. I think that identification of the pattern on the base of the saucer is all that would decide the issue. I did find a few different bases but nothing like this.

      Happy New Year, Tonja!

I'm thinking Imperial Glass. Newer are marked, older ones are not.

I can't see the pattern of the blue one even enough to google it
My eyes are wind burnt and I haven't gone to bed so I can't see it good enough.

Sorry OGF, none of the photos taken to show the base were clear enough. I'll have another attempt..... Meanwhile give your eyes a rest, this is not worth straining them!

The dome is late 1970s, I think the design is called Blue Birds on custard satin. I had a bell in the same pattern which I thrifted but ended up selling last year. It will have a nice bright glow under UV. Don't know about the base, except that it's not the original one, but it shouldn't be too hard to find the correct match, as there are quite a few Fenton fairy lamp parts around & this piece is relatively, at about 40 years old, recent. Sometimes, I think collecting fairy lamps is like buying a jigsaw puzzle bit by bit... :-) Still fun, though!

Thanks for the encouragement, IronLace. It is really vivid under UV. I have a Welz 'jigsaw puzzle' on the go.....great when something turns up :)

Hi OneGoodFind, I've added a clearer photo of the design on the base.

I think you had a pic slip. LOL
Can't see the center. Not like it will help at all but...I just don't know.

Hi OGF, actually I chose to photograph only a portion of the pattern. That way, once enlarged the main repeating motif is clear. On either side you see the smaller spacer motif. These two motifs alternate around the underside of the rim.
