I was terrified of this doll when I received it as a five year old from an old German "auntie". Now that I am 65, I am no longer afraid of her and would like to learn more about her! She is approx. 9". Bisque (?) head with painted eyes and mouth. Surface cracks on top of head. Cloth excelsior stuffed body, arms and legs. Arms and legs are moveable. I can find no manufacturer markings. When I received her she was wearing a red knitted top and separate red knit bottoms...I have no idea if they were original and are "long lost". Any idea what the original clothing would have been? I am really curious to learn anything I can about her!

Just to much paint missing to be sure what he/ she should look like . It is a composition doll and knowing who made her would not change much because she is in rough condition. So I would just love her and display her. I would think the knitted clothes were handmade as few dolls in 40's came dressed in knit clothes . Because she is not marked and came from Germany it meant she was not exported to USA or she would have to have been marked germany unless she was made in US all dolls had to marked country of origin after the McKinley act that were sold to states . It is possible that she was not new when you recieved her according to your age she is more a 1930-40's doll .

She was definitely not New when I received her for my birthday. I am certain she came on the boat from Germany with that family. Most likely a baby doll my "auntie" had as a child. My guess is "auntie" was in her '50's.
