Hi all,
I found this flat weave wool rug (which is about 4' wide) an an estate sale recently and was hoping someone could tell me something about it. Is there a name for rugs depicting scenes like this? What region is it likely from? The house I found it was filled with 1960s stuff--is this from that era?
The rug is so perfect in our house--I'd love to know more about it!
Zapotec Indian from Oaxaca Mexico.
Probably no later than the 1950's.
Thanks, Celiene! I'll do some research on Zapotec textiles. Appreciate it!
Thanks, Valentino97! I wish I could figure out more about it. I googled Zapotec rugs, and there are some similarities but nothing spot on.
One thing to mention is that I washed it by hand with Eucalan and the dye ran some and colored the cotton fringe. Is that a sign of lower quality?
I found this post about a very similar rug (the style of house and palm trees are almost identical) http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/190072-would-love-some-info-about-this-rug?in=1208
A commenter (@CanyonRoad) said it's a contemporary Egyptian rug. Thoughts?
