I recently acquired this vase by Ernest-Baptiste Léveillé, circa 1885. Leveille worked in Paris and was a pupil (later partner) of Eugène Rousseau, one of the Art Nouveau movement's founders. It has smoke colored glass and internally decorated with mottled inclusions of dark burgundy, brown and off white. The exterior is decorated in a Japanesque style, hand painted, gilt overlay of leaves, birds with some enameling thrown in. It's a large and heavy piece measuring 12 x 9 x 7. As always, thanks for looking!
Hi Rick and Gloria!
Wow now you have checked many boxes with this one. I have recently seen a piece of smoke glass and it will stop you in your tracks in person.
As usual you have taken it to another level and yes please. :)
Thanks to you both for all your support in my 1st year of collecting. One of my early comments was when I grow up I want to be a Chihuly. :) However, not like it would hurt my feelings or anything to have a piece but you all have shown me so much more out there that there is to love. Re-set: 700 sq.ft. with a Chihuly? LOL
Still a work in progress. Many thanks..
FABULOUS !!!!
Fantastic artwork! Glass holds something magic. Thankyou for interesting post.
Rick! What a superb piece, and great pics!
Stunning in its beauty!
I've often thought it odd that the very best of French glass, which this is, rarely appears here. I'm hoping you are going to change that, Rick.
was awaiting your new item rick! This is gorgeous!!A great piece indeed!:))) Blessings to you and your lovely wife in the new year!!
So very lovely. Thank you for sharing this.
As I was looking at this for maybe the fourth or fifth time, my thoughts were "What can I say?, What can I say ?". Then on my final visual run through, in that first picture, the bird ! So wonderfully hidden to my eye by all the pleasant distractions this vase presents.
Rick55, Just now

@ Peggy... I agree, we don't see enough French glass here. I have another piece by Leveille that I'll be posting soon. It's a later piece and completely different from this one.

For some reason half of my post didn't print.
@ Malkey... I would love to see your Rousseau piece which is even earlier! Does it have the crackle effect?
@ Rosie... I hate to see what your comment would have looked like if you could have figured out what to say! LOL Thanks!
@ Mac... Thanks so much Mac, I have several French pieces that are on my want list... especially one by Rousseau.
Hi Rick yes the Eugene Rousseau does have the inner wall crackle effect my friend
That's great Malkey then you have a nice early piece by Rousseau or Rousseau and Leveille. A few months back I was bidding on one of his crackle vases but came up a little short. This is one I'm looking out for. One of these days I hope to find one :-) Please post yours - I'm dying to see it!
Will do Rick as soon as possible its a complex piece with carving
Is it one of the ones internally etched?
no wheel carved deep valleys on the outer casing Rick
Oh okay, I've only seen vases that have it on the inside. I can't wait to see it!
Hi Rick just put it on hope you like
Beautiful, as usual! Happy new year Rick!
Thank you so much Bijou, and may 2017 bring you all that you desire :-)

Thanks so much for your kind comments Scott and Sylvia and thanks for the love Nice, Gary and Sean.
@Silvia... Muchisimas gracias Silvia. Estoy feliz de que te guste! Gracias por el amable comentario!
Rick, the wonderful gilding set against the gorgeous swirls of color and texture in the glass is truly a piece of fine art. Just amazing. It found a very good home with you. You really do have an amazing collection!!
Thanks so much Michelle I really appreciate your opinion! What's funny is that I don't particularly like gilding, but on this piece it works for me. Also, thanks for the love Kurt, Sean, Mrs T, Roy, Kerry and Gary, you guys are very much appreciated!
Just beautiful Rick..on my wish list!...:-)
Thanks so much for the comment and love Penny, and thanks for the love Roy, Carrie and Valentino.
