      Looks to me like a matter of national pride. Confoederatio Helvetica [Swiss Confederation] is the true name of Switzerland, and CH in many forms shows this. It must be a way of showing that the machine was Swiss-made; possibly some watches sported a similar logo with part of a dial instead of a typewriter.
