I'd love to identify what "treasure" she hold so dear!! I hope by tapping twice on the photo and enlarging it twice it makes itself know to you. I have use of just one eye and that matters.

    2. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
Could be something similar to, Ladies' Home Journal.

Upside down? The photog didn't care or notice?

Most would have a nicely bound book,a flower, but that looks like a page with odd graphics.Wonder why that would have been special to her?And upside down yet.

Don't think a treasure. Just an upside down folded newspaper. Plus it's being held behind the chair.

Upside down magazine. DANG - there be some Puff sleeves! (Just watched Anne Of Green Gables again on PBS last night!)

Maybe she came to reading late?

That chair catches my eye, without doubt!!! But at first I thought newspaper too but it appears to be cloth, so what I'm thinking is I wonder if it's a "sampler" ???

I don't know exactly how they did the comics in the newspaper then but if that is what it is, then one of the characters looks like Elmer Fudd to me!!! I think it's cloth though.

Pre Fudd...But that was a cute thought!. and I have thought a sampler too. It looks kinda simple to just have a upside down piece of paper in hand. I would guess there has got to be something about it if it is. Like an article or recipe that she wrote. I have hundreds of photos, in this era, and no woman id holding a piece/page of a newspaper..(or a magazine) I agree--Maybe a sampler, or a piece of handiwork of some kind she created. No matter---I'll remember this photo always as a mystery. Thanks to all who speculate with me. Maybe some one can magnify that way up. It is a really clear, sharp photo. It is funny those sleeves were called "Leg O' Mutton" sleeves!!! They could almost interfere with side vision!! Thank God they are not in style presently. And I am thinking the chair is just eye-popping. What a beauty. Glad it was noticed, and the sleeves too. Both more interesting than the oddity in her hand. If it is just a paper, maybe it is the cartoon page? If the item was turned right side up it might reveal to us what it really is. Well, something off the beaten track to look at anyway.
