When I saw this vase, I knew I just had to have it! I was on a road trip with friends (fellow collectors, you know what I mean, all trips are simply an excuse to search for more glass - & it can drive the other people on the trip crazy - but we know better, right?) & during an antiques stop, I spotted this totally bizarre vase. My friends thought it was horribly ugly & weird.
At the time, I had no idea who made it, but have recently found out it is by Kralik. It measures 20.5 cm tall. The overshot texture is so rough it's almost dangerous! And what about those bumps...or pustules. All in all, it's so ugly that it's beautiful!
Good that you see the beauty in what others see as weird and ugly. Wonderful piece!
Many thanks, philmac51!
Odd but really cool, right? :) Currently attributed as Kralik 'Humpen' with overshot. It may be by another Bohemian maker, but that hasn't been proven 100% yet, I believe. I am so glad you found this one - it goes perfectly with all your other lovely pinks!
Totally agree! I love glass that's weird & wonderful...amazing texture, too!
The shape reminds me of a Loetz oil lamp chimney....interesting.
Like this one Marin but then you have an absolutely amazing collection!!! I have a similar one in green I will need to share soon.
I have been looking at your posts and like how you use the garden as a backdrop, a great idea. Cheers Bernard
Many thanks Bernard - & look forward to seeing your green vase.
I did manage to find a green one a few years ago which has a great glow under UV, so yours probably does as well!
Glad you enjoy my photos, I do make a bit more of an effort with them in recent times, when I first started posting here 4 years ago I was usually way too busy & just did very basic snaps - like this one.
I'm lucky to have a nice garden now which offers lots of interesting seasonal backdrops for glass...
