    Hi everyone,

I need some help identifying the origins and when it was made. I will tell you all I know, which is not much.

I bought this on Russian ebay, the person who i bought it from got it as a present from an ex-girlfriend. Her father is a scientist, he bought it during his travels around the world. As he says it was purchased in England and it is 19th century. It is made of brass and I have checked it with a magnet, it is not magnetik.

It is rough around the edges, nice yellow color. It has some pink spots (oxidation). It took me 2 minutes to make up my mind and buy it, something just drew me to it! I paid 2 000 rubles (28 £) for it.

I didn't find any like this one on internet!

The ashtray has no markings or stamps, no text at all. Size: 14.5 x 10 cm. Metall: brass.

Without marks, there is no way to know where it came from or how old it really is. Many of these are mid-century reproductions. This one has a tiny hole in it.

Unfortunately it does have a tiny hole, a down side of buying on internet.

Hi PaulE and Efesgirl. I have two ashtray with the same design as this one. But mine are not etched from the back like this one is. When I found them they were pretty dull and there was no shine like this one but after cleaning and polishing them, they started to shine and the surface is pretty smooth now. They dont have any markings on them. Is there any way of finding that from which era they are from?
