THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE DATED 1908 BRONZE PAPERWEIGHT THAT WAS MADE EXCLUSIVELY FOR MEMBERS ATTENDING THE "9th ANNUAL BANQUET OF THE AUTOMOBILE CLUB OF AMERICA". SHAPED AS AN EARLY SPOKED CAR WHEEL. RAISED EMBOSSED LETTERS ON FRONT. BACK IS ENGRAVED "9th ANNUAL BANQUET- JAN. 25, '08." MEASURES 3 3/8" DIAMETER, 1 1/8" HIGH, AND IS QUITE HEAVY FOR ITS SIZE. IT RETAINS ITS BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL 109 YEAR-OLD PATINA.
Despite an extensive search on the internet, I've been unable to find any information whatsoever about the A.C.A. in 1908. The only info that seems to be available is in regards to the famous 1908 "New York to Paris" race that was sponsored by the club. This was described as "The American Grand Prize" race- and was our very first "Grand Prix".
Thanks for looking!
