I don't think it's particularly odd. This is a beautiful ring, but without a clear gold mark or a maker's mark, you would have to take it to the jeweler for testing. Perhaps made anywhere between 1880 and 1940. Revival jewelry is also made, so the dates are just a guess.
I know it belonged to my great gran and believe she may have brought it as an antique piece.
There is a hallmark but it's too small for me to make out.
We can't help you, either, if we can't see the hallmark. A jeweler can tell you more.
Incredible workmanship of the stone bed. Incredibly difficult! When you say Great Gran, it help to put her age in. Like when she was born. These days, a 'great-gran' can be in her 50's on up.
This is even pretty on the inside. Celiene is right, when I was young I have a 4 generation picture. My great gran lived to be 92! So really a great gran can be younger than 50. I'm still waiting to be a simple gran ;)
Perhaps he/she means fairly old not odd?
It's a gorgeous ring, just beautiful.
Beautiful! I love garnet!
