Hello CW friends and fellow collectors!!!

I recently posted a pair of vintage bespoke riding boots. This the other pair I have in my collection. These are made by John Lobb of London England. I'm not sure sure of the age of these, but the wooden boot lasts have Countess Christine Grote stamped into the brass plates. I cannot seem to find any information in regards to Countess Christine Grote.

John Lobb has custom made bespoke boots in London since 1866. The original John Lobb was a lame Cornish farmboy whose mastery of the Gentle Craft of last and awl brought him golden awards in the Great International Exhibitions of Victorian times. He became the proud holder of a Royal Warrant as Bootmaker to Edward, Prince of Wales. The Prince, as King Edward VII, was to give his name to a whirling Edwardian era of opulence and splendor, an era in which Lobb shoes became a synonym for quality and elegance.

John Lobb shoes and boots are still made today. Very high quality and quite expensive I must say.

Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!!!

    Scott

      Thanks Kurt!!
The last pair of new John Lobb boots I saw, were several thousand dollars. I'm certain that these too were expensive when purchased new, by their original owner, just not the thousands a new pair goes for today.

Very nice. This style of boot has made a huge comeback and are in every shoe store around here from Nordstrom to no name stores. Really nice that you have some originals and I love the wooden stands (I doubt that's what they are supposed to be called but I don't know at the moment what else to call them!

      Rose,

      Sue,
Thank you so very much!! The wood inserts are actually called "Lasts" or "Trees". They're made of Beech wood and very heavy. Theses boots are so old though, that they're pretty stiff. It would take quite a bit of softening the leather to make them wearable again.

Just thought I would pass this one as to storing boots. For any pair of boots, old, collectible or still using. IF you have those BENDABLE WATER NOODLES ( at stores near you ) that are used in Swimming pools ( EG ) see image

      https://is.alicdn.com/img/pb/885/237/618/618237885_942.jpg

Take those Water Noodle ( new and DRY, unused) and use them to stick inside a boot so that it helps the boot keep it shape, as the Water Noodle is very easy to cut to whatever height you need for keeping the shape of a tall boot

~ Also a DRY new water noodle can be used in a Young child's bed ( if they roll out ) as just put it under a separate bed sheet, and it will make kinda like a small roll bar so the child does not keep rolling and fall out of bed..... LOL

THESE ARE WORTH SOME HIGH DOLLORS$$$$$
    17. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
      SEAN,
Thanks!! I do agree. They were sold to me as Henry Maxwells, but only the boot lasts are Henry Maxwell. The boots are John Lobb and worth far more than the $100 that I paid for them. Thanks again SEAN!!!
