This unusual reclining chair has a few cracks in the beautiful carvings but is otherwise very sound and sturdy. I have tried to find more information on its age and possible maker but have not found anything close yet. The front legs each appear to be hand carved. The center piece on the top portion of the back has a beautiful leaf pattern and is edged with a matching pattern to the arms. The unique part of this chair is the curved brass brackets that hold the brass bar. The brackets also have a pattern on their surface. I do not collect anything in particular and fell in love with this chair on first sight. I wish I knew more about its' history.
This is commonly refered to as a "Morris Chair" . This is the the type of reclining feature on your chair. Yours is unusual in the lightness and style, these were more commonly a heavy and massive chair, often in craftsman style.
Thank you so much for posting your chair. I have one that is much bigger it really is massive and havy. I been searching for years to fined out more about it and yours is the closest I've ever seen.. I'm also looking for more info on my chair and would love to learn more about it and the history.
@kmoo, google antique morris chair, ehow has some references. There are alot of morris style chairs and most are big and leather covered. Mission style. I have tried to locate the manufacturing info. on the brackets- No real data yet! Also check http://homes.ottcommunications.com/~shaffer/ , He was the most helpful. Good luck!
