I acquired this inexpensive photo on ebay just last month for my collection. It is in fair condition. The copper frame turned blue on the front of the image. Will this cause damage to the glass photo? Should the frame be removed and cleaned, or replaced with another period frame, or is the photo image perfectly ok with the poor condition of the frame? I have a small collection, less than 10, of those type of photos. Four of them were identified with name and town, and I was able to match 3 of them with the actual people in the 1800's census and family trees on genealogy website. Still working to posivitely id the last one. These photos are an awesome cross-collectible.

Glad to see another photo collector.

The "frame" is actually brass and called a keeper. At one point there was a brass matting over the image as well.

Based on the appearance, I'd look to replace the keeper and get a mat to complete the image.

Be careful not to touch the side of the glass with the actual image-- any touching (even with a tissue) can create scratches or swipe marks in the actual image.

If you are careful, it is a simple process.
