    Good morning everyone,
I have had this ring for many years which is from Canada. As for it's composition this I am not sure of. Reading about how to tell the difference between plastic resin, bone, or ivory by using a heated needle is something I won't be trying. (It is small and can be damaged by the hot pin test) Just by looking at the ring with the 2 little polar bears on the top and the different swivels in the body of the ring and different shades I'm thinking it is possibly made of some type of bone as under a loop it shows some pitting and on one side very small ridges. It also has some fine little circles at the base of the ring similar to the rings seen in a piece of wood grain and very fine detailed lines on the backs of the bears resembling it's fur. My camera is limited and cannot show this detailing even in macro. These are all just guesses as my expertise in Inuit and Eskimo carvings is minimal. I'm hoping someone is more familial with this art and can enlighten my curiosity.

Thank you so much for this TassieDevil. I never thought about it possibly being made from antler as it is in abundance up in Northern Canada:))

I just checked out your post Lois what a great ring. Efesgirl has identified it to be made of ivory. The composition of my ring is still a mystery. With some more searching I hope to find out what it is made of. Thanks for dropping by appreciate your comments.
