Martinlugg…

Looking for any info on a trunk my husband has. It was his great grandfathers and from around late 1800's-early 1900's.
Wallpaper inside. Wood underneath warped in a few spots.
Needs new leather handles. Think the black surface is canvas??
Hi Martinlugg. your trunk is definitely not from the 1800's and I don't believe even from the early 1900's, more like 1930's or so. hard to tell from pictures but covering does not appear to have a canvas texture, more like a vulcanized fiber but like I said hard to tell from the pictures. greendog
The lock was produced by the Harrison lock works and electroplating co. The earliest mention of the company that I can find was when it moved in 1915 from Harrison NJ. to Bloomfield NJ. Incidentally both of these locations are just outside
of Newark N.J. which was a major manufacturing hub from the mid 1800s well into the early middle 1900s. This was a very common and mass produced trunk for many years(I would guess from a Newark location, just a guess mind you). I agree with Greendog regarding it's time frame.
