Help! We have no idea at all what this is! It appears to be made of brass and the patterning in the metal appears vaguely middle eastern. It looks old and has a small amount of black residual powder inside.

It was found in a relative's possessions after he passed. He had served in Korea but was also a bit of a pack rat. So we are totally bewildered. This piece has been brought to museums and antique gun sellers. We thought it might be military.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you slackjack. We have searched for over three years looking for an answer. Evidently we were looking in the wrong place. As it took only minutes to get your answer. I will look for more history based on your response.
