I happened to be in the thrift shop when they were sorting out jewelry.
OK, so what's this about? Porcelain or glass scarabs strung on a crummy string and attached to a 14KG safety clasp.
One of the loops going from the scarab to the clasp is broken but the rest are embedded in the end scarabs. The loops at the either end of the clasps are completely closed - no gap no nothing.
    So....???
    Interested to hear opinions!
    Thanks.
    Bonnie

val - I have not the foggiest idea, lol! I didn't find anything in a Google Image search, or word searches. The scarabs look more like a glass than a ceramic porcelain, but I'm not certain - aaaaah!

Lovely beads! Yes, French wire valentino. You thread it on to your cord to peotect it. The cord will come out of the bead, go through the closed look of the clasp and back on to the bead.

pebble, thank you so much for the video! I've never heard of French wire or ever had a piece of jewelry that had any on it. So, this bracelet can be saved? YAY!

Yep, just needs restrung with new cord, you can put French wire on the ends to protect it from wear from the clasp. You have to get the right gauge to fit over your cord though!

pebble, I will be starting from scratch as I know zero about this sort of thing. I'm not a crafts kind of person.

What's the consensus on the scarabs - ceramic or something else?
    8. shareurpassion shareurpassion, 8 years ago
That just cannot be glass attached to gold. What about jade, no? Yea, that's got to be jade!

I would knot it in between each scarab, like pearls are. I bet...I'll figure something to bet but I'll bet you it's jade!!!

A gorgeous find! Those scarab beads are unusual for sure!

The French wire (kudos Pebble!) Is called too French bullion and in French "cannetille".
All well made salt water pearls necklaces are finished with it :-)

What a fantastic community this is, I'm sure you would make a great job of it valentino! I've only tried using it a couple of times and the last time I couldn't get my cord through the blummin' wire so I gave up!

I had picked up a few necklaces with it on and I wondered what on earth it was. I only found out when I went looking for hand-knotting tutorials.

I've also heard it called "gimp" ....!

valentino97 - I would have to see how much the postage would be from here to there. Don't know if it would be cost effective, lol!
