I got the awesome necklace a few years ago and I am now trying to do a little research on it. I have showed it to silversmith friend of mine who has been designing and creating pieces for decades and he was amazed at the detail and craftsmanship. He referred to it as a Art Nouveau piece.
The focal point of the necklace is a large purple glass carved scarab surrounded by purple faceted glass stones and 1 faux pearl. Underneath the large scarab is a highly detailed dragon and a smaller scarab.
The next linked drop has highly detailed flowers and leaves, and what I assume is a created opal. The bottom link also has highly detailed leaves and another of the faceted purple stones as well as a smooth glass set stone. The very bottom has a pearl drop.
What I find fascinating about this piece other than the fact that it is seems so unique, is that even the clasp and backside of the necklace is so ornate and dimensional.
Such a far cry from so much of the costume jewelry made these days.
Has anyone seen pieces like this, and if so any idea of the maker and/or country of origin?
I agree with valentino97 - a later copy/design taken from a period piece. Not possible to identify the maker or country of origin without some sort of clue to go on.
Thank you for the feedback. I am always amazed at how knowledgeable so many of you are.
Can anyone suggest a value of this piece? I lost everything in the Northern CA fires last October and the insurance company is requiring us to do inventory lists in order to get our Contents Insurance Coverage. Needless to say its been a nightmare having to try and list everything you own and also come up with the replacement costs for each item. Any suggestions would be appreciated
