THIS IS A VERY WELL CONSTRUCTED BOX. THE TOP HAS A DOUBLE HINGED LID OVER A GLASS PANEL. THERE IS A RED AND A REGULAR LIGHT BULB. THERE IS A POWER INPUT AND SWITCH. THERE ARE NO MAKERS MARKS ANYWHERE ON THE UNIT. I BOUGHT THIS AT AUCTION TODAY(I REALLY NEED TO QUIT GOING TO THIS SALE) BECAUSE OF IT'S CONSTRUCTION AND UNUSUAL APPEARANCE. I HAVE AN IDEA AS TO WHAT IT IS FOR SURE BUT WOULD LIKE ANY INFO AS TO USE AND VALUE. THANKS.

It looks like a contact printer from an early darkroom. There was probably a glass plate over the opening so that a negative and a piece of photo paper could be inserted, the cover closed, and an exposure made. The hardware on the piece makes it seem as if it is too late of a model for glass plate negatives.

I am unsure of the value although I am afraid that it may not be worth much. Someone should correct me if I am wrong but I feel that contact printers such as this were to bulky to keep around and primarily used for home darkrooms. The safelight on the side of the box is very cool and probably adds to the value. You are right in that it looks very well constructed.

      Good luck with it.
