Have a pair of plates with heavy gold detail, they're 6". Marked The Yamato with Nippon under that followed by hand painted. Haven't had any luck identifying this mark or much info on what "The Yamato" means. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The magenta mark dates to between 1900 -1930. Same mark shown here:

Thank you. Do you know that separately or going by what the seller says on etsy?

According to marks$antiques, it dates from 1880-1920
Yamato is an ancient word for Japan, and was used by a US importer
Nippon also translates to mean Japan , however when the US importer Noritake took over several japanese factories in the early 29th century the kinda adopted the word ”NIPPON” as there own, so when you look at Nippon Collectors’ websites, they will only feature those companies and their marks
Your pieces are very nice quality, on par with early Morimura Brothers with the beautiful raised relief details, referred to as moriage work
      Hope that helps

Thank you Mary. I'd been reading about moriage and was wondering if the raised detail on these plates could accurately be referred to as moriage.
