This is my current project bike. So far i have it dated to pre 1910. I was able to date it by newspaper that i've pulled from the seat post tube and handlebars. The newspaper pages have stories regarding Gov. Osborn, MI and a fire that burnt down Iscoda and Au Sable, MI. Gov. Osborn served from 1911-1913 and the fire occurred on June 11th, 1911. I also found a piece of receipt paper in one end of the handlebar that had a date written in of Sept. 1910.
The rims, as you can see, are completely cracked and needing replaced. The crank easily turns as does the handlebars. The chain is in great shape though had a little surface rust but is now back in working condition.
The head tube badge is missing from the bike and i can't seem to figure out a brand name on it. Also the hubs are a bit on the rough side and I would like to build up a pair of wooden rims for it but would like to use either the original hubs or period correct hubs.
Found out through a http://www.thecabe.com, that it's an Orient bike from between 1897-1903 made by Waltham Manufacturing, Waltham, MA!
