In my original posting I thought this was a cake plate and stand, boy was I off base. A wonderful contributor to CW informed me that this was actually a Fostoria Cheese and Cracker Set, #2368 with #277 Vernon etch. Thank you TallCakes for setting me straight.

What you have is a Fostoria #2368 cheese and cracker set with their #277 Vernon etch c1928-36. the cheese compote sits atop the plate in the designated ring.

TallCakes: do you mean cubes of cheese would go in the compote, and crackers would sit around on the plate?

Hi Gillian. Given the time period I was thinking more like a cheese ball or something soft that you could dig into with a cracker. I don't know, just guessing, see what TallCakes has to say.

need to find old magazine ads from the era... my guess would be a soft cheese spread for a dip too.
