The birds are brass, appear to be handmade, possibly. There are 10 of them facing left and 8 of them facing right; so, they can be in pairs facing each other. They are mounted on spike nails about 4" in length. I was told by the person that had them they were "door birds" and we used decoratively on old log cabins. The spikes are rusty. I can find nothing on a search with keywords or an image search. Anyone have any idea what these were used for and/or any other details about these? Thanks ahead of time!
Do they turn around the spike? If so they could be holders for window shutters, like this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/2b/c2/55/2bc255a77b36f21bb5140b4c27ddec1d.jpg
One would face right, the other left: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/2d/a6/c5/2da6c595e9477d2d2f5606bbc4c08f55.jpg
They don't turn now but maybe they did when they were new? The spikes are fairly rusty so maybe the rust prevents them from turning now. You could be correct - thanks for the info and the photos! Appreciate it!
