George Augustus Baker, Jr. (Last photo is the artist)
It finally paid off! I kept studying the signature on this cute dog painting that I previously posted. After finding other signatures, there is no doubt in my mind that it is by George Augustus Baker, Jr. He is primarily noted for his portraits, but I would rather have this cute dog that I purchased at a neighborhood estate sale. My late neighbor was an antique dealer at one time and this painting was hanging in her living room. I recently removed the glass that covered it. I found the following info all over the internet but this is from Find A Grave:
Birth: Mar. 19, 1821
New York
New York County (Manhattan)
New York, USA
Death: Apr. 2, 1880

One of the most well known portrait painters in New York. He was the son of George A. Baker one of New York's earliest portrait painters. He painted such portraits as the three daughters of William Vanderbilt, General Hooker and some of his art was exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum.

PhilDMorris, Thank you!
It's an American Eskimo, formerly known as a Spitz.
Mine is right next to me at this moment and I recognize it's playful pose.
Incredibly smart bred.
Mine loves people, but hates other dogs.
Walt league, yes, I agree. I always thought it was an American Eskimo/ Spitz. Thank you for confirming and for your comment:).
