L'Aurora (The Aurora) is a large Baroque ceiling fresco painted in 1614 by Guido Reni for the Casino, or garden house, adjacent to the Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi, in Rome. The work is considered Reni's fresco masterpiece. [wikipedia]
i have had an older and smaller one on my wall for years and like it alot. i was very happy to find this gorgeous, large one at a shop today. it's a real beauty - the way the gold is used w/ the other colors. it's a beautifully produced chromolithograph, i think.
Wonderful painting ho2cultcha!!
thanks jscotto!
What is the meaning behind it???
i used to think it was a mythological painting of the Aurora Borealis, but i read that it is actually an image of dawn and the entry of light into the day.
From the neoclassical period, i think.
How wonderful!! The title makes it even more appealing!!
thanks PCCollector!
