    I found this in a field in Spain just outside of a fortified village (in the north, near to the French border). I have no idea what it is!

      It looks like it could be one to me, maybe for an old, old trunk, not a door, or something like that with a heavy latch. Just a guess though. :^) Nice find! I'd keep it!

      It appears to be broken off from something at the end of the "L"-shaped part. Need a picture of that end to be sure.

      I noticed that too Ron, but it's so corroded that I thought it was because of that. It might be a thumb lever of some kind.

      Bill- if his hand is the same size as mine it's only about 1 1/2" long. I doubt it's a key. More like a decorative finial / nut / cap etc. - furniture hardware. Possibly the shaft went through a board which is rotted away. Hmm... probably nearly impossible to decode.
