This is my newest and most favorite necklace – at least at the time!
The necklace was designed by a Canadian in the mid-1970’s. I didn’t know anything about Rafael Alfandary but I am glad I stumbled across his work by accident. I guess I never heard about him before because at the time I was not living in Canada, and even if I had been, I might have been a bit too young to appreciate his creations.
Looking at this piece makes me appreciate the simple lines, the craftsmanship, and the materials. The necklace was made of hammered brass and what I believe to be a Murano glass cabochon.
Here is a link to a short biography: http://www.modernsilver.com/Abstractions.htm
I hope you will enjoy seeing this piece as much as I enjoy wearing it.
Thanks for looking:)
Many thanks, aura, Efesgirl, and jscott0363:)
Hi Mary, it is brass. He did work in copper and silver too. I will check the chain and let you know. There are some cool photos of some celebrities wearing his creations but, like I said, I never heard of him before.
How lovely!!! and green.....love green!!
Thanks, TassieDevil. I was very happy that the necklace is green. I have two colours I really like, green and purple. Of the two, I wear only green:)
Wow love it!! I see your one of us now, EH?
"" Rafael Alfandary moved to Canada in 1970, and quickly established himself as one of the most popular jewellery designers of the decade. His clients at the time included Margaret Trudeau, Lorne Greene, Liberace and Muhammad Ali, and more recently, Prince wore a piece by Rafael to the People's Choice Awards in 2005. ""
