I own very little of this Czech style glass from Japan and when our own CW Internet Fairy pointed this out to me I was interested in it. It was cheap to purchase, but of course the post here to Australia was around 10x the purchase cost, so the total was only just acceptable.

The orange peloton has been scattered onto a white ground and the whole has been clear cased. It has a noticeable pontil scar on the base and the lip has been flame finished before being flared. Moulded into the angle from the base to the body is JAPAN.

I am not sure when these vases were made. If anyone has knowledge on that, please let me know!

I think there isn't any type of glass Japanese aren't able to make. You shared tens of it and still there's something new!

Looks very like Peloton glass - nice piece!

Sorry, what I meant to say is that it looks like Czech Peloton glass! Interesting to hear that it was also made in Japan. I suspect that I have a couple of pieces of this Japanese Czech style glass, not in Peloton, but one with an applied flower on an opalescent ground & the other pull up threading in pink & green aventurine. Both have black bases with rough pontil marks.

I Like the shape of this one, Karen, angular and curvy at the same time!

Ivonne I agree they seemed to have a go at anything, usually with a good result.
Thanks , and yes I'm still discovering too!

Iron lace like I said I know little about Czech glass but do know there are Japanese efforts out there, lurking in the mix. Post your vases sometime please!

Always the perfect balance! So pretty...
I'm just coming back from the glass art museum in Toyama (Toyama prefecture), been there a couple of times, and I can't recommend it enough. For you lovers of glass, if you find yourself in that area, it's well worth a visit!

Will do, probably later this week. Thinking about it, they both have a similar crimp treatment on their tops to your vase, as well. I got them a while back & at the time thought they were Czech, but have recently seen the odd vase somewhat like them pop up on eBay labelled as Japanese, so have been thinking about getting a more definite attribution. Your vase is really nice - & I would gladly welcome an example like it to my Peloton collection!

      Thanks Bijou.
So now I ask, are you living in Japan? It's my next big holiday I'm saving up for.
I have the Toyama Museum on my list of must dos.

That would be great IL. I am interested to see what they have done with the rim. I have found very few Japanese pieces with a cut rim, that seems more Czech to me, but you know - there are few fixed rules in glass!

This is such an unusual and attractive Japanese vase Karen. This is one of those pieces that at first sight I wouldn't have guessed was Japanese. It reminds me a little bit of Pallme Koenig.

Thanks Rick. I think we can comfortably say Japan cleverly tried to get some of the Czech glass market.
