Conductor's lantern? Red light district? Not so fast. Lanterns like these were made as warning lights for utility vehicles like gas, electric and water. One site I saw listed this as used by the water company. It was a confusing site so I would not take that to the bank.
As this is an Embury lantern a bit of history. The company existed from 1900-1953 when it was absorbed by Dietz.
The Little Giant was first produced in 1936 and lasted until 1953. This example has a Dietz globe. Which means it could be post 1953 or it could be a replacement globe. As usual this sort of thing gets confusing now and then.
This is a kerosene lantern. Much better than the smokeless oil as kerosene actually works.
Very neat lantern! And great info as well!
Haven't seen any of these before thanks for sharing.
