Nippon is an old word for Japan, however Noritake kinda adopted that word as their own, so much so that all the Nippon collectors sites are only interested in pieces by manufacturers under the Noritake umbrella, so don’t wasted your time there.
It is ceramic though?
Wedgwood have a black assortment and they, I think, refer to it as jasper ware just like their famous blue pieces. Or maybe basalt??

Look carefully around the coloured decoration, and see if it’s slightly uneven or smoothly carved/ appears to be stamped out/molded because if it’s been hand etched/engraved, obviously the value would be much more
