This item was locate a few years back from the Finger Lakes region in New York State and
stored until recently.
There was very little doubt that this item was anything other than scrap metal.
Recently, I took a second look and was amazed to see what I believed to be silver. Upon cleaning it carefully, I discovered that it was indeed an original Indo-Persian commerative and or parade shield that was hand tooled and etched in silver.
The tooled work includes images of flowers, animals including birds, writing and male figures.
Upon further investigation, I discovered that this shield (Dahl as referred to in Indo-Persia culture) that notes the legacy of the MUGHAL EMPIRE.
There are four figures on the shield circled with etched silver- Babar Zshiruddin Muhammed (1483-1526 father), AKBAR (1556-1605 son), SHAH JAHAN (1628 -1658 son) and AUZRANGZEB (1658-1707 grandson).
The father was the founder of the Legacy of the MUGHAL (MOGAL) EMPIRE and his sons and grandson were responsible for the Empire that flushed from 1500's to mid 1850's.
If anyone has any information pertaining to this item, please advise.
Thank you very much for looking.
Amazing and such delicate work!
